Greg (Bubba) Jacobson was diagnosed in March of 2015 with Rhabdomyosarcoma which is a very rare form of Sarcoma which is a cancer that is usually associated with soft tissues such as muscles and tendons, or bones. Greg’s tumor was located in the muscle of his jaw. Roughly 350 children are diagnosed with this form of cancer per year.

Bubba’s treatment plan was drawn up and intense. He endured 42 weeks straight of chemotherapy, 8 straight weeks of radiation (M-F) and an additional 6 months of chemo via a pill taken daily, all with a smile on his face, not complaining once.

Although there was a brief period of remission for Bubba, the cancer did come back and he was officially re-diagnosed in April of 2017. This time the treatment plan was a bit different, and even more aggressive. 

On May 9th of 2017 Bubba underwent major surgery to remove the tumor in his jaw. He spent over 14 days in a recovery unit working his way back to eating, walking and doing most daily functions. This was probably the toughest part of the entire treatment, but again he championed his way through it. The good news is the surgeon was able to achieve clean margins within the tumor site which was the goal, so Surgery was a success. Surgery wasn’t the end of the road, he then underwent 6 more weeks of radiation post surgery beginning in July. 

I am happy to report that Bubba has had clean scans since September of 2017 and is back to his fighting weight. 

Physical Therapy will be a part of his life for a long time to come to regain the functions of his jaw as best as possible, again he takes what most folks would consider a burden like nothing at all. When you get to know Bubba, you’ll realize his attitude is what keeps us all going. 

Bubba is an avid golfer, netflixer and Boston sports fan. He lives in Norfolk and is finishing his bachelor's degree from Bridgewater State. There isn’t a day that goes by that Bubba isn’t smiling and enjoying the day with family or friends.

Bubba has no plan to quit and we’re taking this head on, we hope to make a difference in the childhood cancer community with
